Application | 2-(2-aminoethyl) pyridine is a pharmaceutical intermediate that can be obtained by reducing 2-(cyanomethyl) pyridine through sodium borohydride. It has been reported that it can be used to prepare arylcyclopropyl-amino-isoquinolinamide compounds. |
Preparation | A solution of sodium borohydride (0.26g,7.00 mmol) in 30 mL of ether was added dropwise to a mixture of 2-(cyanomethyl) pyridine (0.80g,6.82 mmol) and AlCl3(0.93g,7.00 mmol). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 6 hours. Remove the solvent and extract the resulting mixture with hot isopropyl ether (3x30 mL). The organic layers were combined and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 2-(2-aminoethyl) pyridine. |
